Since opening in 1997, Mason Elephant Park & Lodge has garnered a reputation around the world as a blueprint for how elephants should be treated in captivity. Located in the foggy interior of Taro, this award-winning park is the only special elephant rescue facility in Bali and is home to 31 endangered Sumatran elephants, 4 of which were born here. This park gives guests the opportunity to interact and learn about this gentle giant while watching elephants live in a comfortable and safe environment.
This Elephant Safari Park is set in 3.5 hectares and has been carefully landscaped to emulate as much as possible the original environment of the previous elephant house in Sumatra. Locations in central Bali are also chosen because of the cooler climate and more tropical locations. For these reasons, elephants remain cool and comfortable in this lush and tranquil landscape.
This Elephant Safari Park does not use brutal or cruel training methods, because all training is with repetition, appreciation and patience. The elephant rides are in lightweight teak chairs that are specially designed and very soft to avoid inconvenience or injury to the elephant's back. Riding an elephant actually helps by providing the necessary exercises for muscle, bone density, foot health and general well-being. In addition to our own regulations, we actively support other global charities that are of the same mind.
The Elephant Safari Park at Mason Elephant Park & Lodge has also been recognized by the international community and a number of animal welfare organizations such as the National Geographic Society as Welfare Supporters and the World Wildlife Foundation as Partners in Conservation.
